Where to stay

If you want to come visit us any other time, you're welcome to stay at our house! But for the wedding weekend, here are some alternative suggestions.

We have a block of rooms reserved at a few hotels which are listed below. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about which place might best meet your needs.

Oakland Marriott City Center
1001 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94607
800-228-9290
510-451-4000
$109.00/night + tax

Mention that you are with the Fono/Fromm wedding. The rate is good until three weeks before the wedding. If you are interested in staying longer than the weekend, the earlier you book the more likely you can get that rate for more than just the weekend. Parking is not included, I think it's about $15/day.

This is walking distance from BART (public transit) and shops; it's close to the highway; and it's easy to get to San Francisco and Berkeley. It's not too far of a drive to the wedding (in Walnut Creek), but public transit does not run directly to the wedding site, which is about 2 miles away from the BART station.

Courtyard by Marriott Oakland Downtown
988 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94607
800-321-2211
510-625-8282
$89.00/night (including tax?)

Mention that you are with the Fono/Fromm wedding. The rate is good until Friday, April 28, 2006. Parking is not included, there is valet parking available for $18/day + tax. There might be cheaper parking nearby, I can look into this as the time gets closer.

This is literally across the street from the other Mariott, but slightly cheaper.

Holiday Inn Walnut Creek
2730 N Main Street
Walnut Creek, CA 94597
800-HOLIDAY (800-465-4329)
925-932-3332
$79/night + tax

Mention that you are with the Fono/Fromm wedding. I'm not sure until when the rate is good. Parking is free. A free shuttle bus can take up to 6 guests at a time to the wedding site. UPDATE, May 9: There was a bit of a miscommunication, and they seem to have for a while lost record of us, and/or not wanting to honor the agreed upon rate. I spoke with Constance Wood, the Reservations Manager, and she agreed to honor the original rate and inform the front desk of this. If the front desk gives you any trouble about this or seems uninformed, give them this information. If you have already made a reservation but were quoted a higher rate, my suggestion is to ask for the reduced rate when you check in, but that is up to you. There is still allegedly no cutoff date, but it is probably best for you to make a reservation as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.

This is much closer to the wedding site than Oakland or Berkeley, but it's in the suburbs. (Lorien says, "It's like being in Unionville. It's more genteel than Oakland.") There's not so much in walking distance, and it's a bit away from San Francisco. It is very close to the highway.

We were hoping to add a hotel in downtown Berkeley, but there isn't really a very good selection to choose from. If you really do want to stay in Berkeley, the best choice is probably the Doubletree at the Berkeley Marina. It's very close to the highway and has some beautiful views of the bay, but don't even think about staying here without a car. It's not really in walking distance to anything like a hotel downtown would be.
